Relief from RegistrationAny person who receives deferred adjudication or is convicted for either indecency with a child, sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, prohibited sexual conduct, compelling prostitution, possession or promotion of child pornography, sexual performance by a child, aggravated kidnapping with the intent to commit a sexual offense, burglary of a habitation with the intent to commit certain sexual offenses, a second conviction for indecent exposure or any attempt, conspiracy or solicitation of the above mentioned crimes, must register as a sex offender. A person who receives deferred adjudication or is convicted for indecency with a child, aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, aggravated kidnapping with the intent to commit a sexual offense or burglary of a habitation with the intent to commit certain sexual offenses is required to report for life. Prior to 1999, it had been possible to petition the district court for an exemption of the registration requirement if certain conditions were met.
